The rules of video poker are simple; you make a between 1 to 5 coins, the machine deals you five cards, you choose which to hold and which to discard, the machine replaces your discards. When you are dealt replacement cards for your discards, your new hand is evaulated. Based on what kind of hand you're holding, you'll receive a certain number of points and pays you off according to the value of your hand.

However, video poker comes in a wide variety of forms at different online casinos. Each version has it own rules and some even adds different wild cards. The three most common versions of video poker are 'Jacks or Better', 'Deuces Wild' and 'Jacks Wild':
Jacks or Better is probably the most popular and frequently played forms of video poker. The name basicly give you the rules: You win only if you have a pair of Jacks or better. However, calling you a winner is not always completely true, because when betting 5 coins and hitting a pair of Jacks, you are only paid your original 5 coins, in other words, you didn't loose anything but you didn't win anything either. So in essence, in order to get paid more than your original bet you have to get two pairs or higher.
Next to Jacks or better, Deuces Wild is probably the most popular video poker game. In Deuces Wild, all Deuces (2s) are treated as wild cards: i.e. you can use them as any card you like to complete your hand.
Compared to traditional video poker (i.e. Jacks or Better) this means that it is easier to get high ranked hands. It also means that it is possible to get hands that you can't get in Jacks or Better, for example Five of a Kind. However, since it is easier to get higher ranked hands, the casino compensates this by offering a tighter payout schedule. The payout is generally lower and you only get paid with a three of a kind or better.
Another difference from Jacks or Better is that Deuces Wild is more variable. This means that your bankroll will go up and down with bigger swings, than it would playing Jacks or Better. For some players this makes Deuces Wild a very attractive game to play - you either win big or lose it all.
